Samsung is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow its flagship smartphones to capture and display HDR photos in HDR format, rather than converting them to SDR. This feature, which is similar to Google’s Ultra HDR introduced with Android 14, could debut with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra next year.
According to a leak from a reliable source, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display will also support Ultra HDR, which will enable the device to achieve a peak brightness of 2500 nits.
Ultra HDR will also allow the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to capture HDR photos with a wider dynamic range and more accurate colors, using its 200 MP main camera and 40 MP selfie camera. The HDR photos will be stored in HDR format, rather than being converted to SDR, which will preserve the original quality and details of the images. Users will be able to view the HDR photos on the device’s display, or on compatible HDR monitors or TVs.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to launch in January 2024, along with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus. The price and availability of the device are not yet known, but it is expected to be one of the most expensive and powerful smartphones in the market.
