Apple recently unveiled a new Apple Pencil variant, offering a more budget-friendly option for iPad users eager to experience the wonders of digital handwriting, annotation and document markup. Set to hit shelves in early November for $79, the new Apple Pencil boasts a hidden USB-C port under a sliding cap, allowing for convenient charging and pairing via a USB-C cable. Additionally, the Pencil sports a matte finish and a flat side, facilitating magnetic attachment to the side of the iPad for storage.
Compatible with all iPad models featuring a USB-C port, such as the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini, the new Apple Pencil maintains the same precise accuracy, minimal latency and tilt sensitivity as its predecessors. However, it lacks some features like pressure sensitivity, wireless charging, double tap functionality for tool switching and free engraving. Still, it supports hover capabilities on the latest iPad Pro models, enabling users to sketch and depict with higher precision.
The latest Apple Pencil joins the existing first- and second-generation models priced at $99 and $129, respectively. According to Apple, the new addition enriches the lineup with increased choice and value, catering to various activities such as note-taking, sketching, annotation, journaling and more.

“Apple Pencil has revolutionized note taking, sketching, and illustrating, unleashing endless possibilities for productivity and creativity,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Combined with the versatility of iPad, the new Apple Pencil unlocks another great option to experience the magic of digital handwriting, annotation, marking up documents, and more.”
